    Description

    CHARGE-A -PLATE
    Auction is for one  ~1950's ORIGINAL CHARGE-A-PLATE.
    These metal/aluminum tags/cards are similar to military dog tags with information embossed on one side. Reverse  is paper, and it has name of person to whom it was issued.
    They were used in person as the original "charge cards"- also used for placing a telephone order directly with the store. Someone other than person named could use these cards as long as they had the physical card in hand.
    These were issued by groups of Department Stores in a particular city- This one is from Richmond VA.

    Cards came in a leather case with the CHARGA-PLATE name on one side and the CITY on the reverse.   Card made in  USA  .
